  • Cal Performances 101 Zellerback Hall #4800 Berkeley, CA 94720 United States (map)

Artistic literacy is a human right and a teachable skill. It is the ability to connect both personally and meaningfully to works of art and, through this process, to forge connections to our humanity and the humanity of others.

Join us to

  • explore what artistic literacy is and how to cultivate it

  • experience our emerging artistic literacy framework for audience engagement

  • have challenging conversations about the arts in a time of crisis

  • build an artistic literacy movement

  • become an agent of change for a better world

Over the course of the Institute, we will introduce and explore artistic literacy as a framework and a methodology. From plenary discussions about core values and strategies to immersive arts experiences that will allow us to deepen our learning, we’ve planned a full slate of scaffolded events and networking opportunities.

We will also hold several break-out sessions, allowing participants to focus intently on curriculum development and implementation for specific populations (K-12 classrooms, university campuses, lifelong learners and general audiences).
