The IRC is a voluntary association, not for gain, in South Africa founded in May 2010. The role of the IRC as a national body is to provide direction on matters relating to integrated reporting and integrated thinking in South Africa through technical information and guidance, conferences and other activities.

Our organisation members are among the leading professional and industry bodies in South Africa. The founding members are the Association for Savings & Investment South Africa (ASISA), the Institute of Directors in South Africa (IoDSA), the JSE Ltd, and the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).

Subsequently, other organisations joined the IRC: ACCA South Africa (ACCA), Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA), Banking Association South Africa (BASA), Chartered Governance Institute of Southern Africa (CGISA), Council of Retirement Funds for South Africa (Batseta), Institute of Internal Auditors of South Africa (IIA SA), Institute of Risk Management South Africa (IRMSA), Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants South Africa (CIMA SA), South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA), Southern African Institute for Business Accountants (SAIBA), the University of Johannesburg: Department of Accountancy and the University of the Witwatersrand – School of Accountancy.

In April 2017 the IRC welcomed corporate members, a new category of membership. The 2023/2024 corporate members are: African Bank Ltd, AfroCentric Investment Corporation Ltd, AngloGold Ashanti Ltd, Bastion Graphics (Pty) Ltd, BDO South Africa Services (Pty) Ltd, Deloitte South Africa, Discovery Ltd, Ernst & Young (EY), Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd, Government Employees Medical Scheme (GEMS), Ince (Pty) Ltd, Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa Ltd (IDC), KPMG South Africa, Legal Practitioners Insurance Indemnity Fund NPC (LPIIF), Liberty Two Degrees Ltd, Nedbank Ltd, Northam Platinum Ltd, PricewaterhouseCoopers South African Firm, Standard Bank of South Africa Ltd, Redefine Properties Ltd, Royal Bafokeng Platinum Ltd, Sasfin Holdings Ltd, Super Group Ltd and SNG Grant Thornton Inc.

In April 2019 the IRC welcomed corporate SME members. Our 2023/24 corporate SME members are: Alchemy Creative Studios (Pty) Ltd, Greymatter & Finch (Pty) Ltd, R&A Strategic Communications (Pty) Ltd, O’Hearne Ferreira (Pty) Ltd, Trialogue (Pty) Ltd and W Technical Consulting South Africa (PTY) Ltd..

The IRC also has a number of individual honorary members.

In 2017, as part of the re-structure to accommodate the growing number of members, the IRC formed a board. The current members of the board are: Professor Mervyn King (Chair), Professor Suresh Kana (Deputy Chair), Leigh Roberts (CEO), Graeme Brookes (JSE), Milton Segal (SAICA), Sunette Mulder (ASISA) and Parmi Natesan (IoDSA). In May 2023, the IRC members voted Thuto Masasa (BDO South Africa) and Corli le Roux (IRC honorary member) to the board to fulfil the two annual rotating positions for a second term. Previously, these positions had been held by Jayne Mammatt (PricewaterhouseCoopers South African Firm) and Russell Loubser (IRC honorary member) (May 2020 – May 2022) and Larissa Clark (EY) and Stephen Sadie (CGISA/CSSA)(May 2018 – May 2020).

The IRC CEO is Leigh Roberts, the head of the IRC Secretariat is Lyn Bunce, and the Secretariat of the IRC Working Group is Elrida Oberholzer. The IRC relies on a team of people who volunteer their services: Darren Gorton (IT and website maintenance), Bronwyn Forsyth (social media) and Sheralee Morland (IR Practitioners Forum). The IRC also relies on the contribution of its Working Group: the members of the Working Group are appointed in their individual capacity and bring their experience and expertise in different industry sectors and as preparers, consultants, investors and academics.
